Aesthetic Dentistry covers a process in which general dentistry and some basic
procedures are applied together in order to provide a healthy and beautiful smile.
Dental Aesthetic treatment services include porcelain laminates, metal-free porcelain
veneers or bridges, tooth whitening methods, onlay fillings, zirconium bridges or
implant porcelains.
The most important aim is to provide aesthetics while providing function and phonation
(speech) in dentistry; natural looking teeth with a correct smile design.
With aesthetic dentistry, we have many alternatives that can be done today to make our
teeth look beautiful and smile comfortably. With the correct determination, maximum
aesthetics can be achieved with minimal treatment for the problem.
The porcelain filling method is based on the bonding of this filling material with a
method called bonding instead of the minerals lost in the tooth and thus replacing the
material lost due to decay or abrasion with porcelain inlays or onlays. For this
purpose, a computerised technique called Cad-Cam is used in dentistry.
They are very strong and durable fillings made as porcelain inlay or onlay that protect
the healthy part of the tooth. This application is made to treat the loss of material in
the teeth such as caries, deformation of the teeth, after root canal treatment and
trauma, and is applied without damaging the general structure of the tooth by completing
only what is missing.
Inlay-onlay porcelain filling applications, which shorten the sitting time in the
patient's chair, have many more advantages in terms of both durability and aesthetics.
In the application, two methods can be preferred after the decay of the teeth is
cleaned.
Method 1. The impression taken directly from the inside of the mouth
with a digital camera is prepared with porcelain-containing blocks in the direct
scraping unit, and the filling is adhered to the tooth with special adhesive materials.
Method 2. The model prepared by digital reading on the impression
taken from the patient's mouth with a special impression material is removed from the
porcelain blocks as a filling in the engraving unit and glued with special adhesive
materials.
Porcelain filling method also gives successful results in cases where significant losses
have been suffered or caries has descended to the gum. Since the teeth prepared in the
laboratory are polished with a special polish, they also have a very bright and
beautiful appearance.
Poselen laminates are leaf ceramics applied to the tooth surface only with abrasions on
the enamel layer and in some cases without abrasion at all. These laminates, which are
fixed to the teeth with a specially produced adhesive, provide both treatment and
aesthetic results. These materials, which are sensitive to all kinds of breakage before
being glued, gain excellent strength and durability after being glued to the tooth.
• It is a method that provides aesthetic correction in a very short time.
• It can be done with minimum correction by preserving the tooth tissue.
• Natural appearance due to the light transmittance being very close to the tooth
tissue.
• Lack of colouration in the long term.
• Being durable and resistant to pressure is one of the most important reasons for
preference.
• With the personalised muck up to be applied to the patient's mouth on the models
prepared before the procedure, the patient can see how the result will be before the
procedure.
It is the light transmittance that gives the teeth their natural appearance. In metal -
ceramic crowns, light refraction occurs due to the metal in the substructure and the
teeth look dull. Since the light transmission feature of zirconium crowns is close to
the natural tooth, the appearance of the teeth moves away from artificiality.
Metal-supported porcelains can create a dark coloured line on the gums over time.
Zirconium Tooth creates a more natural appearance by maintaining its integrity with the
gums for many years.
In recent years, Zirconium crowns are preferred because they combine aesthetics and
durability. Zirconium crowns have many advantages over metal-ceramic crowns:
• Zirconium gives a natural appearance thanks to its light transmittance, especially in
the anterior region teeth that require aesthetics. No matter how well metal-ceramic
crowns are made, it can be difficult to achieve a fully aesthetic result.
• Metal-ceramic crowns are mechanically cemented. In zirconium crowns, mechanical and
chemical adhesives called dual cement are used. In this method, which increases the
retention, bad surprises such as the tooth falling and breaking are not encountered.
• Nickel used in the substructure of metal-ceramic porcelain can cause allergic
reactions in some patients. The materials used in zirconium are completely compatible
with the tissues in the mouth.
• The dark coloured line on the tooth-gingival border, which can be seen in
metal-ceramic porcelains, is not seen in zirconium crowns.
• While metal-ceramic crowns create a bad appearance in cases of gingival recession,
there is no such risk in zirconium crowns. The treatment time is very shortened with the
cad-cam system. If the patient does not have teeth that require gingival or canal
treatment, it can be applied on the same day.
Bonding is used to repair fractures and cracks in the teeth or to change the shape and colour, especially in the front teeth. First, the colour of the composite material to be bonded is matched to the colour of your natural tooth. Then your tooth is lightly filed and a gel is applied to ensure that the bonding material adheres tightly. After the composite material is applied, it is fitted to the tooth and hardened with high-intensity light. It is then polished for a natural look. Bonding is effective on small areas because larger areas are prone to fracture.
Dark metal amalgam fillings need to be replaced as they wear out over time; they can also cause the tooth to crack and separate. Tooth-coloured fillings are almost unnoticeable as they are very colour-matched to your natural tooth. In addition, they are stronger and longer lasting than silver fillings.
